Types of Yoga Offered by Our Teachers:
- Guided Meditation: Appropriate for all levels, this class will offer the opportunity to try various forms of meditation/mindfulness practices to better manage stress, lower blood pressure, ease tension/stress/pain in the body, and many more benefits.
- Hatha: Most widely practiced form of yoga combining breathwork (pranayama), poses (asanas) and focusing the mind to bring balance, strength, flexibility, and greater overall wellness to the practitioner.
- Kundalini: Kundalini Yoga is a dynamic form of yoga that awakens awareness. It uses sets of yogic postures and movements (asana) with meditative focus, breath work (pranayama), and chanting (mantra). In addition to strengthening the health and well being of the physical body, it is very useful for emotional balance, mental clarity, stress relief, and personal transformation.
- Hatha/Vinyasa Flow: Building on Hatha Yoga, this form of yoga combines the breath and poses to create a flow linking poses together. Moving fluidly from one pose to the next with few breaks creates greater heat in the body to build strength, endurance, and mental focus in the practitioner.
- Meditative Yoga: This class combines elements from Hatha and Kundalini Yoga to infuse a more meditative aspect into the practice. Class will typically include a meditation to end the class. This class is appropriate for all levels.
- Restorative/Gentle Yoga: This form of yoga is a slowed and gentler practice of Hatha Yoga that uses modifications and/or props while incorporating the breath to move into a safe, relaxing, and fully supportive yoga practice.
Introduction to Yoga (offered by Lisa at Texas A&M Rec Center):
Introduction to yoga will orient the students to the most widely practiced form of yoga in the world, Hatha Yoga. Students will learn how to do basic poses (asanas) and conscious breathing (pranayama) to develop a good foundation for a progressive yoga practice. This class is for those who have never practiced yoga before or very little and would like to develop a good working knowledge of yoga. Students will be able to apply this knowledge in developing their own personal yoga practice and be better prepared to progress to other levels and types of yoga.
Yoga II (offered by Lisa at Texas A&M Rec Center):
Yoga II will provide experienced yoga students the opportunity to deepen their knowledge by practicing a vigorous form of yoga, Hatha Flow. Like Hatha yoga, one of the most popular forms of yoga practiced, Hatha Flow links the postures practiced into a sequences of poses (asanas) that ‘flow’ with the breath in a more vigorous series. Sun salutations are used as a warm-up while incorporating various standing poses, arm balances, seated poses, and/or inversions. Students will also learn more about various conscious breathing practices (pranayama) in order to enhance their practice. Students will be encouraged to deep their practice through challenging vinyasas (asana sequences), while building upon previous knowledge of asana alignment and pranayama.
This class is for those who have at least practiced yoga consisently for at least six months due to the level of flexibility, strength, and endurance required for more challenging poses and are familiar with basic yoga poses. Students will be able to apply this knowledge in developing their own personal yoga practice and be better prepared to progress to other levels and types of yoga.
